Quarter One | 2022
NEWSLETTER
Dear SOS Family,
After a span of nearly two years of sporadic interruptions due to Covid-19, all of our ministries here at SOS are back up and running, and we couldn’t be more thankful! The first two months of 2022 are off to a great start, and the campus is buzzing with activity.
We hope you are encouraged by this update. Thank you for your continued love and support towards all of us!
For the King & His Kingdom,
Shannon Hurley
WELCOMING
The Huffstutler Family

The SOS family continues to grow in 2022! We are excited to welcome Dan and Angie Huffstutler, and their three daughters, Karis (studying at university in the USA), Faith, and Makayla to SOS Ministries. Dan is serving at Shepherds Training Center. To read more about the Huffstutler family, please click here!
Living Word Conference
Shaping the next generation

2022 was kicked-off with the annual Living Word Conference. During this week-long conference, 200 university students from around Uganda gathered at SOS to hear the Word of God preached by Conrad Mbewe. It was a joy to see our Lord working in the hearts of these young people through a time of praise and worship and through preaching of God’s Word.
Please keep these students in your prayers. Pray that God would continue working in their hearts and that they would advance the gospel in East Africa!
Shepherds Training Center & Legacy Christian Academy
STC and LCA are back in session!

SHEPHERDS TRAINING CENTER
Shepherds Training Center resumed classes on February 7th, and we are so encouraged by the enthusiasm and passion of our students and staff. In terms of our staff, we have never started the term in such a strong position. We have three full-time faculty that are exclusively devoted to STC (Dan Huffstutler, Edward Kintu, and Mark Rutuna), and another eight faculty that are deeply invested.
In our new class of students we have one new student whose name is Matata Todo. Todo comes from a displaced people group who do not have a translation of the Bible. Life in a refugee camp in Northern Uganda is a trying experience for a variety of reasons, but Todo is fiercely devoted to proclaiming Christ and leading churches in these hard places. Todo is just one example of the many students who walk through the doors of STC with a passion to be equipped to preach the Word of God and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
We praise the Lord for his faithful provision of funding for STC in 2021 and are trusting Him for 2022. We have recently opened 2 new classrooms, one for lectures and one remodeled as a new library. The new 17,000 volume library was largely donated by Dan Huffstutler. We are also presently building family housing units to accommodate 30 families for Phase 2 of the STC curriculum.

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
On January 17th we welcomed back our Legacy Christian Academy students. This year over 500 students have reported to Legacy, and we are overjoyed by their excitement to be back in school! 2022 is an especially significant year, as it marks the beginning of Legacy Christian High School. Most of these high school students were a part of the first class to ever attend Legacy when its doors were opened for the first time back in 2013.
Our Headmaster, Solomon Kavuma, continues to lead a passionate team of 41 faculty and staff, 9 of whom are new, whose primary concern is shepherding the young hearts the Lord has entrusted to their care.
Although the two years of sporadic interruptions to the academic calendar challenged the patience of all our students and staff, Solomon and his leadership team used the time wisely to further train and equip our teachers to better serve the students. We are grateful to be seeing the fruits of that labor in the classroom.
PRAYER REQUESTS
Please pray for the strength of our Shepherds Training Center staff. This year we will be discipling two streams of classes concurrently, with approximately 70 pastors trained on campus.
Please pray that God will reach the hearts of our 530 Legacy Christian Academy students and give us wisdom as we start our secondary school this year.
Pray that God would continue to cause growth in the life of our church. We have over 500 people from our local community attending church each Sunday.
Pray that God would raise up local leaders and ministers within STC, Legacy, and Community Bible Church of Kubamitwe.
Pray that God will continue to allow sweet unity and a deepening impact within the Baptist Union of Uganda. Pray that the union as a whole will unite under God’s purpose for His church.
Pray that God will use our Community Outreach department and medical clinic to reach the lost and powerfully demonstrate the love of Christ.
Pray for the construction of our new local church, STC family housing, medical clinic, and Legacy secondary classrooms.
Pray for our wisdom, stewardship, and endurance.
