SOS HISTORY

Shannon Hurley founded SOS Ministries, having visited Uganda in 1995 and witnessed the incredible joy and love of a people facing overwhelming physical and spiritual needs.
SOS Ministries was founded.
  • 2002: SOS Ministries was founded.
  • Early 2006: Founder Shannon Hurley relocated his family to Uganda to more effectively serve among her people, initially operating a Christ-focused orphanage in the Kampala suburb of Mukono. 
  • Early 2009: walking through the doors God had opened, biblical training became the ministry’s focus, relocating to Kubamitwe village in the remote jungles of Luwero and expanding to meet the great need for clear teaching and training (Hosea 4:6).
  • Later 2009: SOS planted a church to disciple the local community in God’s Word.
  • 2013: SOS established its primary school, Legacy Christian Academy, to meet the clearly visible educational needs of the Kubamitwe community. 
  • Present: Since arriving in Luwero, SOS Ministries has grown from a staff of 5 to over 70 full-time staff, and its national training ministry continues to grow, with the construction of the classrooms completed for Shepherds Training Center.
