LCA April 2023

This is some text inside of a div block.

Dear Faithful Sponsors,

We have just finished our first of three terms for 2023 (the LCA academic year begins in February and ends in November). After the rocky 2020-2022 years, it has been thrilling to have a normal year. And we can honestly say that this year has probably been the best year yet.

There are many excited things taking place at Legacy. I just wanted to take a moment to share a few with you.

  • We have started providing two meals a day – breakfast and lunch. We recognized that many of our students were not getting breakfast before coming to school. And as an administration, we felt, for nutrition and proper development purposes, adding breakfast would be a significant benefit to our children’s lives.
  • We have added greater attention to the quality of our chapel services. This year we have engaged our pastoral team into our bi-weekly chapel program. We have also directed all of our chapels to focus on the attributes of God. We recognize that chapel is one of the greatest opportunities for impacting these children, so we have put a special emphasis on making them excellent.
  • We have added another level of education. Legacy Christian Academy now offers grade levels through Senior 2. Translated into an American system, S2 is the equivalent of adding 9th grade. It is our aspiration to provide a full primary and secondary education for our children. We are one step closer to that reality.
  • We have matured administratively and spiritually. Under the leadership of Michael Mpiima, we have much better clarity on what it takes to run a secondary school education in Uganda. His vast experience has greatly enhanced the quality of our education services.
  • We have applied more attention to our athletic program. In an intense academic environment, kids’ recreation is important. So one big outlet for our children this year has been athletics. Our students began competing with other schools in soccer, baseball, and netball. Shockingly, our girls’ netball team, in its first ever tournament, won the regional championship. Like David fighting against Goliath, our small Legacy team defeated its large neighboring schools. It was an eye-opening, exciting experience that these children will never forget.
  • We have had far greater parent participation than we have ever had. For the purposes of ownership in the institution and in their child’s life, we required each student’s parent to pay $15 toward their child’s education per term. This year, the parents owned this responsibility. This is a clear indication that our community is valuing the investment Legacy is putting into the lives of their children.

These are just a few of the many wonderful advancements happening so far this year. Please join us in praising God for the abundant growth He is causing within our Legacy Christian Academy.

Thank you for supporting Legacy Christian Academy – God is using you!

For the King & His Kingdom,

Shannon Hurley
