Pastoral Training Center - Matching Grant Update

We praise God and are so appreciative and thankful to all of you for your prayers and support in our building program for the Pastoral Training Center (the SOS Bible College).  As we shared last month, SOS received a matching grant of up to $400,000 from a generous donor. To date we have raised $200,000 toward the match - half way there!  These funds will be used to build dorms and other essential facilities to support the Training Center and related ministries.

Over the next several months, SOS will be updating the campus Master Plan to reflect the Training Center facilities (mid February), grading of Training Center buildings and other facilities (June) and construction of Training Center dorms, facilities and essential infrastructure (Fall 2015).

Please continue to pray for this - it has been a tremendous encouragement to see how the Lord continues to provide. Would you consider partnering with SOS in this wonderful opportunity? Every dollar donated is doubled by our generous donor.

Matching Grant period ends on February 28th - five weeks left./

Ezekiel Adoption Update - Praise Report !!

January 13, 2015

Dear Friends,

Thank you to all who were praying for our adoption hearing for Ezekiel. As some of you knew, one official gave me the run around for the past 6 months as we tried to obtain his final report for court. We decided to just go today and see if the judge would go without it.
We were set at ease as we sat down in the courtroom to observe a plaque displaying Psalm 37:4 resting on her desk. She spent the first hour interrogating Ezekiel's relatives, and requesting additional documentation (which I "happened" to have originals to everything with me). We were sincerely impressed by her thoroughness. She wisely asked the right, probing questions. She then interviewed each member of our family, hearing all the other adoption stories, their fluency of the local language, favorite Ugandan customs, and their perspectives of adding Zeek to our family. It was more like a home study interview than a hearing with a judge. After then hearing about SOS Ministries, she concluded with, "I will definitely rule in favor of this adoption. You'll have the written ruling by next week" (--a verbal ruling which our attorney has only ever seen once before). She proceeded to thank us for our work in Uganda, thanked us for giving up our home in America (which she said she wouldn't have done), and congratulated us on our ministry. She predicted future blessing on our ministry and is open to visiting us sometime.I have already confessed my lack of faith to the Lord. Last night, as I was worrying (sinning) about today, I even moaned to Him, Why is adoption so hard? It wasn't this hard for you to adopt us! (To which I immediately recanted, realizing that my adoption cost Him the life of His biological Son. My kids assured me that I'd never do that. Right. I'd go to prison.) So once again, my Shepherd, Guide, and Captain of my ship reminds me that He is in control, working in hearts to accomplish His plan. Now that the adoption is official, we will now proceed to pursue immigration paperwork, which will allow Zeek to travel with us. This could take up to 2 years, and he is anxious to go meet all of those he loves without even having seen you yet! But we rest in God's perfect timing for him to travel. In the meantime, our family as a whole is "grounded." We've committed to not leaving the country as an entire family till Zeek can join us. So we will continue to wait in hope (Psalm 62:5-8). No better place to be.Thank you for your prayers!Gratefully,Shannon & Danielle Hurley & family

Bekah Kolstad - Praise and Prayer Update

On behalf of SOS and the Kolstad family, thank you so much for the outpouring of prayers for Bekah (the original prayer request is

here). Bekah is now finally back home, recuperating (the doctors are still not sure exactly what caused her illness).  Please continue to pray for a full recovery.

SOS Youth Conference in Kubamitwe !

Hey All SOS Short Term Team Alumni!

Remember school evangelism in Uganda? Remember bumping along those dusty roads in the back of a truck to pull up to a school, prepared with an evangelism presentation and a crazy skit? Those were long days, sometimes hitting 4 schools and 4 sodas in a day! Well, those days have paid off. This past week, we invited students from each of those area schools to a youth conference hosted by our church in Kubamitwe.

Over 150 students showed up, most of whom had never visited our ministry or church. But they were impacted by you. Over the past 6 years, you laid the groundwork, and now we are seeing fruit. After two full days of attentively hearing God's Word, these students are excited to join our first student Bible study, kicking off Friday night, February 6th. Thank you for your role in kingdom work here in Uganda.

Danielle Hurley

But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. Psalm 73:28
