Community Bible Church of Kubamitwe
Take a Tour of the SOS Campus in Kubamitwe!
from Kevin Thomas, SOS USA/Canada Executive Director
It's been 2 years since my last visit to our Ugandan brothers and sisters in Christ, and SO MUCH has changed at the SOS campus in Kubamitwe! The ministry continues to thrive, thanks be to God and the faithful prayers and support of our ministry partners like you. Since so many of you are asking, I'd like to share an update on our Matching Grant program (with funds targeted for the SOS Pastoral Training Center and related facilities). But then I'd like to do something a bit different - having just returned from a visit to SOS, I'd like to give you a brief visual update, via photos, on the SOS Uganda ministry team and the tremendous progress on campus facilities construction. If you have questions or would like more information give us a call! Even better, contact us to arrange a short-term missions trip to SOS, or support one of our missionaries, students or teachers (see below).
Matching Grant Program Update
With about a week left to go, you have blessed us greatly with $275,000 toward our $400,000 matching grant goal. Will you consider helping us reach our target (see Giving Options below)?
These funds will be used for the Pastoral Training Center Phase I (Discipleship Institute) dorms and related facilities. The Phase I facilities will consist of classrooms, a library, and housing for up to 50 Ugandan pastors, for a one-year intensive discipleship and biblical training program. These Phase I facilities are foundational to the overall SOS Bible College concept, with Phases II and III including more advanced pastoral training in discipleship, preaching, shepherding and church planting. The Bible College is a key element in SOS' strategic Church Strengthening ministry, which also includes national training conferences, regional leadership training, BUU organizational leadership support, and a very Pauline approach to pastoral encouragement and exhortation through local church visitations.
Master Plan Update
If you haven't seen the SOS campus and ministry team in a while, it's difficult to communicate the unique unity and ministry vision of the SOS Uganda team, and the extraordinary progress toward developing the campus facilities. The SOS Master Plan team just completed a week-long facilities assessment, focusing on the Phase I Bible College, a new central SOS administrative building, missionary and senior staff housing, and a new cafeteria/multi-purpose room for Legacy Uganda. Here is just a brief glimpse into SOS - the staff, the campus, and the community we serve...

Anthony Basaba is greeted with excitement and honored by Solomon Kavuma and the Hurleys as we all look forward to Anthony & Mary Basaba rejoining the SOS family in Kubamitwe.

With the new Legacy Academy classroom on the right, this shows the future site of the Legacy cafeteria and Multi-purpose Room and SOS Estate Department building.

This is the SOS Estate Team, led by Dennis Katabalwa, The SOS Uganda team includes over 50 staff in Biblical Training, Community Bible Church, Community Outreach, Legacy Academy, and the Estate Department.

Solomon Kavuma, Legacy Christian Academy Uganda headmaster, with your friendly Executive Director. Solomon is amazing, a tremendous blessing to SOS and the Legacy kids and teachers.

SOS provides high quality housing for the 16 teachers at Legacy Academy, which has enabled SOS to attract excellent teachers from across Uganda to the SOS campus.

You know of the 1,500 BUU churches that SOS strengthens, the 200 children at Legacy Academy, the surrounding villagers that SOS loves through the local church, and the 50 or so staff that serve at SOS, but did you know that SOS, and the Hurleys, care for and fund the education of 20+ Ugandan high school students, who live in the Hurley home while on school break? These kids love the Hurleys and SOS and appreciate your prayers and support. You can sponsor one of them if you'd like - see below!
